Gerald Steps Into State Supreme Court

After serving New York City for almost 20 years, Queens-bred Hon. Lenora Gerald has been confirmed by the State Senate for the Supreme Court of the 11 th Judicial District, according to a June 20 press release.

Gerald comes to the bench to serve her native Queens community with experience from assignments in Queens County Criminal, Civil and Family Courts.

"In her year at Family Court, Judge Gerald has shown a unique ability to not only dispense justice, but show the cultural sensitivity that is so necessary when it comes to a borough as diverse as Queens," New York State Senate Democratic Leader Malcolm Smith said. "I am fully confident that she will serve the 11 th District to the best of her ability."

After finishing high school in the New York City Public School system, Gerald first graduated from St. John's University before earning her law degree from St. John's Law School. Since she was admitted to the bar in 1989, Gerald has held many positions in law and in the state's judicial system.

"As someone who was born, raised and educated in Queens, it is an honor to serve the people of my home borough," Gerald said. "I am grateful to Gov. Spitzer for his confidence in me, and am humbled to serve."
