Scholars Academy Lacrosse Raise Victory Sticks High
By Nicole Cunningham

The Scholars Academy Lacrosse team.
On Thursday, May 24, 2007 the Scholars Academy Seawolves had their inaugural lacrosse game at Beach Channel High School.

The team that the Scholars Academy faced was Corbin's Crusaders, located in Manhattan. Although the Crusaders were a little bit more experienced than the Seawolves, the Scholars Academy gave it their all and won the game by the final score of 9-4.

The Scholars Academy lacrosse team dedicated themselves to their task. You could feel the electricity as the game went on and the fans cheered the team on.

When Ryan D'Emic, who wears the #4 uniform, was asked about his training, he served up a great deal of information. "Some of the drills we practiced were the offensive and defensive drill," he said. "The offense set is when you have three people against the defense and you pass the ball and try to score. Training is difficult because we ran a lot and did many drills."

Next up was #23 Jonathan Maranga. When he was asked if he doubted himself prior to, or during the game, Maranga responded by saying, "at first I was a little bit scared to go into the game, but when the team arrived, all the fear inside of me went away because they didn't look so intimidating." Lucas Hanson was on hand to offer his summation and advice. "Some days, we work harder than on other days so it's a little bit difficult," he responded proudly. "I mean with all the training we did I felt that we were awesome and that we would do great.

I think we have a great future because all the students on the team are willing to sacrifice their time and dedicate themselves to the game of lacrosse to get to the next level," Hanson said. The lacrosse team would like to thank Mr. Lunati for being such a great coach and Beach Channel for allowing us to use their field for the game.
