Teen Immigrant Dies In Race From Police
By Howard Schwach
An illegal immigrant, afraid of being deported, fell six stories to his death from the fire escape of a Far Rockaway apartment building Tuesday afternoon, while reportedly running from police officers who were responding to a noise call.

The victim, identified by police sources as Jose Alvarez, 21, of 170 Beach 25 Street, was reportedly at a for-pay party at 22-40 Mott Avenue when neighbors called the police because of the noise generated from Apartment 6F.

When police knocked on the door, it was answered by Cesar Baldomir, 21, a resident in the apartment. As he spoke with police, the guests scattered.

Alvarez apparently went out on the fire escape in an effort to escape the police.

One young girl who saw Alvarez said that he went out on the fire escape and slipped and fell over its railing.

Relatives told police that Alvarez had come to America illegally, from El Salvador.

Police officers responding to calls from neighbors stating that Alvarez was injured and lying in the back courtyard of the building, found him unconscious. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the trauma center at Jamaica Hospital, police said.

A spokesperson for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said that Baldomir and Gabrielle Miranda, 18, who also lived in the apartment, were arrested for providing alcohol to underage teens. They were charged with criminal nuisance and unlawful dealing with minors - providing them with the alcohol.

Police sources say that many of the guests, who paid five dollars to attend the party, were truant from neighborhood schools.
