Recently, the St. Camillus Special Olympics basketball team journeyed to Fordham University in a very comfortable bus driven by our excellent driver and friend, Ed Wilmarth.

The team participated in the Special Olympics New York Sectionals Basketball Competition. Our gang included Alana McCarthy, Brian Moriarty, Heather Huber, Colette Rup, Patrick Carroll, Terence Burke, Kevin Reilly, Jeffrey Resnick, Elizabeth Sena and Joseph Orban. They were coached by Peter Brady and Michael Shapiro.

Although our athletes played very hard and worked as a coordinated team, they were defeated by only one point. They immediately played a tough second game, which they also lost. However, they received medals for their efforts.

In the skills competition, Paul Fitzpatrick, Timothy Malone and Kevin Manning each competed in three events: target passing, shooting baskets and dribbling. They each won recognition. Paul Fitzpatrick earned a first place gold medal; Timothy Malone was awarded a bronze medal. Kevin Manning received a ribbon. Their coach, Rose Gurry, was proud.

The St. Camillus team gathered at the campus of Fordham University.
The day ended with tired, but contented, athletes eating donuts on the bus and falling asleep. The Special Olympians want to thank all the Fordham students who volunteered to chaperone them through their competitions. They also thank the Rockaway community for its continuous support, which enabled them to travel by bus to this event.
