Call For 'Barricaded EDP' Seals Off Hammel Houses

Police officers who chased a man into the Hammel Houses complex on Friday, June 1, believed that he had barricaded himself into an apartment, possibly with hostages. A call went out for a 'barricaded emotionally disturbed person" and dozens of police officers responded, blocking off the streets around the complex for a few hours until it was found that the apartment in question was empty. Local residents and schools officials were cautioned to stay inside their building while the event was going on. Pictured, police officers from the NYPD's Technical Assistance Response Unit (TARU), suit up to do their appointed jobs.
