Memorial Day Celebrated Throughout Peninsula

The Memorial Day weekend was celebrated throughout the Rockaway peninsula last week under beautiful skies and high temperatures. The weather and the need to remember those who have fallen in the pursuit of liberty led to a spate of cook-outs, parades, beach-going and simply enjoying the weekend with friends and relatives. For more photographs of the Memorial Day Weekend, see page 16 (beach opening ceremony), page 22 (summer activities), page 36 (Bayswater memorial), page 73 (Rockaway parade), page 86 (Blue Angels) and page 88 (Broad Channel Parade). Pictured, patriotic residents line Rockaway Beach Boulevard; veterans from various wars from World War II to Iraq salute the American Flags at St. Francis de Sales Church; celebrating at Memorial Triangle in Broad Channel.
