Rockaway Relay For Life Steps Off On June 9
By Miriam Rosenberg

The fight against cancer once again comes to the Rockaways, as the Eighth Annual American Cancer Society Rockaway Relay for Life will take place on Saturday, June 9 to Sunday, June 10 at Beach Channel High School.

The overnight event will begin with registration at 4 p.m. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 6:30 followed by the survivor's lap, which starts the relay.

"In 2006, the Seventh Annual Relay For Life of Rockaway Park raised $75,000," said Keith Hudson of the American Cancer Society. "The

funds raised will go to fight cancer in the community through research,

education, advocacy, and patient services.

"Since its inception, the Relay For Life of Rockaway Park has raised nearly $500,000."

The traditional luminaria ceremony, which honors those who have fought cancer, are fighting it or have been lost to the disease, will take place at 10 p.m.

For more information people can call John Link, of the American Cancer Society, at 718 263-2225 or log onto http://www.acsevents.org/relay/ ny/rockaway.
