When Students Walk,Funds Follow
By Ian Clayman, Scholars' Academy Student

The air was full of fun recently as the second annual Scholars' Academy Boardwalk-A-Thon kicked off. Students, staff and parents from the Scholars' Academy joined together on a walk by the beach for one of the school's many exciting fundraisers. Students brought in parent and corporate donations to help the school buy Smart Boards, an innovative teaching technology.

Students were all abuzz when asked about the event. A seventh grader, Jade Biggers, had this to say, "It was great knowing that I had fun while helping out my school."

This event helped raise $7,500 and was a great opportunity for the students to see the beauty of Rockaway. Several students who live away from the beach were awed by the power and brilliance of the ocean.

Several onlookers were also amazed by the maturity of the students and many couldn't help but say so.

In addition to the Smart Boards, the school was able to purchase a scoreboard for the gymnasium. This event is one of several that will help us refurbish and replace some older equipment in the gym and around the school.

Scholars' Academy Principal Brian O'Connell participates in the Boardwalk A-Thon.
When asked about the event, many students said they believed the event was "a success, and we can't wait for next year's." This reporter couldn't agree more.
