The Inner Voice
Commentary by Marilyn Gelfand

I was brought up to think that if something was going well in life, you must not acknowledge it or somehow it will be taken away. Happiness only lasted momentarily, so don't tempt the fates. As I myself have grown, I decided that I would instead feel gratitude for all the good things in my life. As I walked to the beach over the Memorial Day weekend, thinking of all the soldiers who gave their lives for future freedom, I felt very fortunate. The beach is so beautiful and all the flowers are blooming and we have sunshine to enjoy.

I am grateful to myself for some of the decisions I have made over the years. I am glad that some people are in my life and that some people are not. I feel that in partnership with God I was able to have the strength to do what was important as I continued to grow spiritually. I am glad that this whole path came into my life. So, on a small scale, I am grateful for personal relationships and possessions, and on a larger scale I am glad to be a part of the larger divine plan. Freedom is so wonderful to experience. We are lucky we can make so many different kinds of choices bathed in the beauty and majesty of nature.
