Local Firefighter Arrested On DUI Count
Driving With Two Flat Tires, Refused Breathalyzer Test
By Howard Schwach

A local firefighter who was spotted by Transit Police Officers driving with two flat front tires was arrested on Thursday, May 17 for driving while intoxicated.

Police say that Frank Ocello, 40, who lives in Rockaway Park, was seen driving at about 4 p.m. on Seaside Avenue at the intersection of Beach Channel Drive. Officers say Ocello was driving his 2006 Chrysler 300 at a slow rate of speed with two flat tires.

When the officers pulled him over, court records show, he "smelled of an odor of alcoholic beverage" and that "his speech was slurred."

A spokesperson for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said that when Ocello exited his car at the order of the police officer, "he was unsteady on his feet."

Ocello was transported to the 112 Precinct in Forest Hills, where he refused to take a Breathalyzer test and he was arrested for driving while under the influence.

Ocello was arraigned in Queens Supreme Court on May 18 on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

He was released without bail on his own recognizance for his next court date on June 22. Ocello faces one year in jail and a $1,000 fine if he is found guilty of the charge.
