Local Off-Duty PO Busted For Harassment
Used Cell Phone To Threaten Ex-Boyfriend, Officials Say
By Howard Schwach

An off-duty police officer who lives in Rockaway was arrested last week after she allegedly sent her ex-boyfriend, identified in court papers as Robert Hardy, at least 55 text messages threatening him, police sources say.

Tanya Jackson, 26, from Far Rockaway, reportedly started sending the text messages from her cell phone to Hardy while she was standing outside the Lakewood Avenue apartment building in which he lived.

In some of the messages, Jackson allegedly said that she would ring every bell in his building and wake up the residents if Hardy didn't come to the door and speak with her.

According to a spokesperson for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, the messages caused Hardy alarm and annoyance and he called police.

That spokesperson said that Jackson was released without bail for a hearing on June 18. She was arraigned on charges of aggravated harassment in the second degree and harassment in the second degree.

She faces up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine if found guilty.
