Disappointed In Our Agency Reps
Dear Editor,

After the Transportation meeting in Broad Channel with the members from the DOT, MTA, and our representatives, it was very disappointing.

The MTAwill not consider the opening of the LIRR Rockaway Line and will not increase service because of the amount of trains already on the tracks during rush hour.

The other reason not to increase service was that there is not enough people riding the A train during off hours. This "other" reason is not acceptable.

There has been a tremendous increase in riders on the Rockaway(s) trains. This increase is due both to tourists using it to get to the airport and the huge influx of new residents to the Rockaways. The MTA should and must increase service along both Rockaway A lines.

During off hours, passengers waiting for the Far Rockaway A now wait up to 40 minutes, based on the current schedule that an A comes every 20 minutes but that includes the Lefferts A. The MTA web page incorrectly states that the A train to JFK has a maximum wait of 20 minutes, make that statement true by increasing the A service during off hours. Another idea is to increase SPEED during the off hours and/or certain spots during rush hour. For example, currently the A train from Howard Beach JFK to Euclid is 20 minutes, to Jay Street is 40 minutes, Chambers is 50 minutes, West 4th is 1 hour, etc. If the train increased speed, the time to these locations will be reduced. Who decided what exact speed the train is going at now? I am looking to the residents and Mr. Lew Simon to help Rockaway have better transportation!
