St. Francis Student Impresses At Math Bees
John Barca, a sixth grader, first won the school's Math Bee on October 25, 2006. He then participated in the Intermediate Regional Mathematics Bee, which was held at St. Ephrem School in Brooklyn on November 14, 2006. Barca was one of the finalists and moved on to compete in the Diocesan Intermediate Math Bee held on November 28, 2006 at the Diocesan Office in Brooklyn. There he competed against the 15 remaining Math Bee finalists in the Brooklyn-Queens Diocese and placed in the top six. Barca's achievements earned him an invitation to participate in the Kellenberg Memorial High School Math Bee on May 11 to compete against eighth grade students. He came in fifth place out of 34 math bee hopefuls, staying in nine out of 11 rounds of competition. Both family and friends are very proud of Barca's accomplishments.
