Arrest Made In 1996 Rape Of Local
DNA Cold Hit Traps Rapist
By Miriam Rosenberg

A suspect has been arrested in the 1996 rape of a 48 year-old Far Rockaway woman after the man's DNA matched the samples that were taken at the crime scene eleven years ago.

Curtis Clinkscales, 36, a resident of Pittston, Pennsylvania was arrested Wednesday for the alleged rape and sodomy, which took place in Far Rockaway on January 10, 1996.

Clinkscales' DNA was obtained earlier this year when he was arrested and began serving time in New Jersey's Bayside State Prison after violating his 2000 parole on a 1999 conviction of selling drugs.

In 2003, New Jersey began requiring samples of DNA from all prisoners.

Clinkscales was extradited to New York on Monday.

A spokesperson for Queens District Attorney said that Clinkscales was originally indicted as "John Doe," but that an indictment in his name would probably be handed down sometime this week.
