Chamber Salutes Rockaway's Bravest And Finest

The 101 Precinct was well represented.

Members of the 'Big House' fire station in Far Rockaway pose for a photo. The Big House's Jeff James of Ladder 134 was one of four members of the FDNY recognized this year at the luncheon.

Representatives of EMS Station 47 bow their heads as a prayer starts off the luncheon. Station 47 was honored for its 'Santa Medic' program where they collected and handed out gifts for hospitalized children during the holidays.
Firefighter James Byrne is seen during his acceptance speech at the luncheon. Byrne, and fellow honoree - Lieutenant Steven Sharp - were applauded for putting their own safety aside and saving fellow firefighters. FDNY honorees Byrne, Sharp, Captain Kenneth Whelan and Firefighter Jeff James are all from Battalion 47.

Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer told the crowd, "We here in Rockaway know the true heroes are the people who serve us - the police, the fire and transit [officers]."
