PS 114 Student Poets To Be Published

Whoever said that poets are the only true magicians was right! Magic was in the air on Friday, April 20 when Stephen Grill, principal of PS/MS 114Q, announced the names of the 21 students whose poems were selected for publication in the 2007 edition of the Young American Poetry Digest. Joan Diehl, the creative writing teacher at the school, participated in this National Schools Project competition, submitted more than 50 poems written by students in grades three, four and five. One winner in such a nationally publicized contest would be reason enough to celebrate, but 21 from one school is truly extraordinary. Principal Grill and Diehl are pictured with the following student poets: Asia Acevedo, David Benanti, Matthew Cappiello, Christine Cincotta, Emily Dana, Christopher Esposito, Yarden Flaton, Danna Funaro, Maylina Gillespie, Christopher Hila, Robert Kiernan, Kayla Kilgallen, Ryan Kohlbrecher, Jackie Maroney, Julia Mieleszko, Sydney Miller, Bryn Nagel, Brandon Rebich, Devan Sconzo, John Shaughnessy and Stephanie Zwirn.
