The Inner Voice
Commentary by Marilyn Gelfand

Plan as much as you like and then expect the unexpected. We can create our own lives according to what we think is best for ourselves or our family. Then we have to detach from our own wants and hopes and realize that there is a big picture out there with lessons for us to learn. Getting what we want may not bring about the growth for us, and the lesson is from my perspective, the reason for life. Experiences often take us away from our insecurities. Perhaps our wants are just to keep the status quo which will not give us new wisdom. So, the more we can step back from our own emotions and thoughts and realize that there is more than we realized, the more the unexpected can be taken in stride.

It is also very important to accept what is. Life is the way it is. If we can live that way, the amount of disappointment shrinks. So if we can trust in a divine plan, see reality as it, it may be easier to detach from our impulses and emotions. We can try to see what must be done with a clear head. Freedom often can come when we remember to trust in the divine as well as ourselves.
