Second Annual 'It's My Bark Day' May 19

Dog owners and their furry friends are invited to the second annual It's My Bark Day on Saturday, May 19 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the proposed site of Rockaway's first official Dog Park- by the boardwalk between Beach 99 and Beach 101 Streets.

The new dog advocate group ARF ARF (Allied Rockaway Foundation for Animal Recreation and Fitness), in partnership with The City of New York Parks and Recreation, is hosting this year's dog day. Planned activities include music and refreshments, raffles, freebies, off-leash play for pups and adult dogs, canine contests and more.

Professional trainers will also be on hand with tips and demonstrations on canine obedience, as well as RAA members who will photograph or create a caricature of your pooch.

Other goods and services will be provided by local Rockaway pet friendly businesses, such as The 29 Deli, Brown's Hardware, Danielle's Florist Shop, The Dog Spa of Belle Harbor, Michael's Groomers, The Rockaway Animal Hospital and many others.

The North Shore Animal League's mobile adoption unit will once again offer adorable, healthy puppies and adult dogs who need loving homes; and the ASPCA Mobile Unit will conduct a spay/neuter clinic, and free or low cost vaccinations on site. Micro-chipping for pets will be offered courtesy of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC Animals. Other health services and information will also be available at the event.
