Addabbo Supports Volies In National Essay Contest

City Councilman Joseph Addabbo, Jr., who represents the western end of the Rockaway peninsula visited the Rockaway Point Volunteer Firehouse on Wednesday to show his support for them in relation to a national contest in which the volies are one of the 10 finalists, the "Across America" contest, which will hold online voting starting April 28 to determine the winner. The contest, sponsored by firedog , was open to all firehouses across America and called for essay submissions on how a local firehouse has demonstrated outstanding service to their community. Maureen O'Malley of O'Malley Irish Dance Academy, who holds her classes at the Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire House, submitted an essay about the volunteers and their dedication to the community. On April 3, O'Malley received a phone call congratulating her and the Rockaway Point Volies for their distinction as one of the final ten firehouses in the running for the competition.
