Sanders Brings 'CASA' Cash To Schools

Councilman James Sanders Jr. has secured $75,000 to be distributed equally among three schools for an after school program that promotes culture. PS 132, PS 195 and PS 106 will each receive a $25,000 grant through the New York City Council's Cultural After School Adventure (CASA) initiative.

Sanders will hold a press conference on Tuesday, April 24 in PS 106, located at 180 Beach 35 Street in Far Rockaway, at 4 p.m. to discuss the grant's purpose.

The CASA program was created to ensure that every child in New York City has access to quality after school service and to support the city's outstanding cultural vitality.

"It is not good enough for us to complain and scratch our heads wondering why our youth are hanging on street corners, if we have not provided them with adequate activities or programs they can engage themselves in," said Sanders. "This grant will not only teach these youth to express themselves through the arts, but allow them to display their talents to the world."
