PHC Offers Angio-Screening For All Rockaway Residents
"It screens for corroded arteries… to check blood flow," said Jim Martinez, Administrative Director of the hospital's Imaging Services. "Patients and their doctors each receive reports and the doctor can then decide if anything else needs to be done. "There are so many patients underserved in Rockaway, that if they have no doctor one of our own doctors can be called in." Poor blood flow can result in such problems as strokes and hypertension.
PHC was given a $100,000 grant by the New York State Department of Health for the equipment needed for the screening. Since they are not being reimbursed for any of the procedures, the screenings are being done as a community service. "We made a commitment to do it free," said Robert Levine, the president and CEO of the hospital. The screenings, which is due to start on April 16, is already booked through July. Appointments can be made by calling 718 734-3119.
