Acclaimed Actress Visits Local Students
As reported in last week's Wave, actress Alfre Woodard visited Beach Channel High School at a breakfast and morning seminar to share her experiences and answer the questions of students from the BCHS Renaissance Small Learning Community, Channel View for Social Research and Scholars' Academy. She recounted her journey to stardom and the people who played a key role in life, particularly the nuns from her high school who encouraged Woodard to follow her dreams. She has appeared in many movies, plays and TV shows, most recently in the ABC hit "Desperate Housewives." Woodard (right) is pictured with Agnes Green, AP Guidance.
Lorna Smith (left) poses with Woodard, with Dr. Kathleen Cashin, Region Five Superintendent, in the background. Woodard urged students to create their own positive paths in life, set high goals, and show love for themselves and others by taking care of their "temples" (bodies). She also emphasized the importance of reading and education.
