MTA Bridges And Tunnels Near Record Use

The Marine Parkway Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge, which connects Rockaway to Brooklyn, had more that 7.7 million crossings.
The nine crossings of MTA Bridges and Tunnels handled 302 million trips in 2006, a 0.5% increase over 2005 and the second highest volume in its 70 year operating history, reflecting a strong regional economy. The highest traffic was in 2004 at 302.9 trips.

The two bridges that touch Rockaway had a total usage of 15,095,286 crossings. The Marine Parkway Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge had 7,735,283 crossings, while the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge had slightly less crossings, with a total of 7,360,003.

The MTA says that E-ZPass use continues to grow on one of the largest electronic toll collection systems in the world. Atotal of 74% of all Bridges and Tunnels traffic used E-ZPass in January, slightly ahead of the previous year.

Verrazano-Narrows Bridge;
The Cross Bay Bridge, which is free to those Rockaway residents who use EZPass, connects Rockaway to Howard Beach and the rest of Queens. More than 7.3 million motorists used the bridge last year.
