Simultaneous Work On BCD, RBB Ties Up Traffic
 | | Driving either east or west on the Rockaway peninsula, particularly in the west end, got more complicated on Wednesday afternoon when the city's Department of Design and Construction (DDC) abruptly cut off Rockaway Beach Boulevard between Beach 108 Street and Beach 116 Street for milling of the roadway in preparation for its repaving. On Thursday morning during the rush hour, the vital road was once again cut off completely even though Jonathan Gaska, the District Manager for Community Board 14, told The Wave that the contract called for maintaining one lane in each direction of the road during the work. At the same time, Beach Channel Drive, the only other east-west road in the area, was already down to one lane in each direction due to its own milling work.  | | Rockaway Beach Boulevard was completely closed from Beach 116 Street to Beach 108 Street. Traffic was pushed to Beach Channel Drive, which was down to one lane in each direction from Beach 108 Street to Beach 92 Street and the Cross Bay Bridge.

 | | On March 29, there were monumental traffic jams in Rockaway when Beach Channel Drive was closed completely from Beach 92 Street to Beach 102 Street. The traffic jam went all the way to Beach 73 Street. All of the major east-west roads, Beach Channel Drive, Rockaway Beach Boulevard and the Rockaway Freeway were impacted.

 | | On March 29, Beach Channel Drive, the main east-west road throughout the peninsula, was completely closed westbound at Beach 92 Street nearby the entrance to the Cross Bay Bridge.

 | | During the March 29 traffic jam, motorists diverted from Beach Channel Drive to Beach 89 Street often took 40 minutes to an hour to move the one short block to the Rockaway Freeway, which was also tied up to Beach 108 Street.
