Sanitation Dept. Donation Event
Bring In Electronics, Clothes For Recycling

Just in time for spring cleaning, the Department of Sanitation, with the assistance of the Lower East Side Ecology Center, Goodwill Industries and Con Edison, is sponsoring "Spring 2007 Electronics Recycling and Clothing Donation" events throughout the five boroughs.

Gently-worn clothing and electronics will be collected. Clothes will be donated to the needy, while old or broken gadgets will be properly recycled or disposed, as many electronics contain materials that, when discarded improperly, can negatively effect the environment.

In addition, facilities serving the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island areas will offer city residents free compost at select locations for their gardens and plants. Only vehicles registered to New York City addresses can pick up the compost, and no commercial vehicles are allowed.

Local residents can bring their items to the Spring Creek Composting Facility, 12720 Flatlands Avenue in Brooklyn, (near the intersection of Fountain Avenue, by the Belt Parkway) on Saturdays, May 12 and May 19; and Sundays, May 12 and May 20.

For more information, call 311 or visit www.nyc.gov/sanitation.
