Corrections Officer Busted For 'Public Alarm'
By Howard Schwach

An apparently intoxicated city Corrections Officer was busted on April 1 after officers noticed him "acting loud and boisterous" and blocking traffic at a Far Rockaway intersection, police say.

Sources say that Department of Corrections Officer Kenneth Shepherd, 54, of Rosedale, was spotted on the intersection of Dinsmore Avenue and Nameoke Street at about 7:28 a.m. on Sunday morning, blocking traffic and acting what they termed "strangely."

Police say that he had prescription medicine in his possession for which he had no prescription. Officers arrested him and charged him with both disorderly conduct and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

According to a spokesperson for District Attorney Richard Brown, however, Shepherd was released after being issued a summons for disorderly conduct, dropping the possession charge. Court records show that Shepherd was charged with "Intent to cause public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm or recklessly creating a risk thereof to obstruct vehicular or pedestrian traffic."
