"I'm going to keep Sean's name in everyone's memory," she told The Wave on March 23 after accepting a presentation from the students at P.S. 42. "I'm going to keep [fighting] until we get justice." Paultre-Bell, who legally took her fiancé's name after his death, said she was "satisfied" with the three indictments of the police officers that were unsealed March 19. Bell was killed November 25, 2006 - the same day he was to be wed - following his bachelor party at a strip club in Jamaica. Five undercover police fired 50 shots at the car carrying Bell and his friends after an officer thought he heard one of the three men say something about getting a gun.
Paultre-Bell, who was given the Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award from the school, was appreciative of the warm welcome she and her family received. "It shows the kids in the school support us 100 percent," Paultre-Bell said. Joining her were her parents, Lara and Les Paultre, and her children Jada, 3 and Jordyn, 9 months. Paultre-Bell, Region 5 Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Cashin, Assemblywoman Michele Titus, Laura Sporny of Arverne by the Sea and Kathy Hager were honored at the school as part of P.S. 42's Women's History Month program. "I'd like to thank the community for helping us with our needs," said Les Paultre. "Nicole has her mother standing by her. It is a very special thing."
"It is important to look at history and history books," Les Paultre said. "All this information, you're soaking it in right now and it will come to light later on in life." Paultre-Bell said that she plans to attend the trial of the three police officers. "Until the end," she said.
