The One And Only Last Traffic Circle In The Rockaways
Back in the early 1900s a cul-de-sac was built on Rockaway Beach Boulevard, between what we know today as Beach 120 Street and Beach 121 Streets. Also at this time, plans were in the works to extend the Rockaway Park section to Beach 126 Street, the Belle Harbor section as well as Neponsit to Beach 141 Street. For these new developments, Rockaway Beach Boulevard was extended through the old cul-de-sac mentioned, cutting the circle in half. Today we call the place Memorial Circle in Rockaway Park. Today in Views is a photograph of the warning sign of another traffic circle ahead in the distance. The sign says to reduce speed to ten miles per hour! This was the last traffic circle in the Rockaways and was eliminated when the Nassau Expressway was opened years ago. Do you remember where the old traffic circle was located?
