NYPD Ready For Anything In Bell Case
Mobile Command Post, Officers Wait For Word

New York City Police officials were ready for anything as the city waited on Monday, March 19 for District Attorney Richard Brown to officially unseal the indictments against three police officers in connection with the shooting of Sean Bell in Jamaica late last year. Comments from black activists that there would be trouble in the streets if the indictments were not sufficient led to the police stationing dozens of police officers throughout Rockaway, some at the 100 Precinct stationhouse in Rockaway Park and the majority in the parking lot abutting the boardwalk on Seagirt Boulevard. The Far Rockaway contingent included one of the NYPD's Mobile Command Posts, capable of coordinating a wide range of police activities.

Police officers spent much of the day on Monday sitting in unmarked vans awaiting the call to trouble that never came.
