Lady Hibernians Host Family Ceili
The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians held their first Family Ceili at St. Francis de Sales on Saturday, February 24. A large turnout of young and old enjoyed a fun-filled Irish dancing night. Dances were called by Maureen O'Malley-Byrnes TCRG of Rockaway and Breezy Point's O'Malley Irish Dancing Academy. Some of the Irish dances performed were The Waves of Tory, Walls of Limerick, Rakes of Mallow, Bridge of Athlone, Gay Gordon, The Hay Makers Jig, Stack of Barley, Shoe the Donkey, The Siege of Carrick and a few more. Maureen Logar worked hard in the kitchen, making 25 Irish soda breads for all to enjoy. The LAOH will host their first fundraiser on Saturday, April 28 at 7 p.m. at Aviator Sports and Recreation Complex. It will be a night of Irish dancing, dinner, raffles and prizes. There will also be a floor show of Irish Champion Dancers from the O'Malley Irish Dance Academy. A spring community flea market is also in the works. For more information, contact Lily Corcoran-Pineiro, President of the LAOH, for tickets, donations or journal ads at 718-474-6728.
