Historical Views of the Rockaways
Hey! Night Game Baseball In Arverne, 1934. Who Won The Game???
From The Rockaway Museum by Emil Lucev, Curator Dedicated To The Memory Of Leon S. Locke

The old days in the Rockaways contained many local baseball teams. Far Rockaway had the "Domestics" who played on their home field north of Everdell Avenue in the 1880s. In later years Arverne, Hammels and Rockaway Park formed athletic associations- and all played each other and visiting teams on their fields, which consisted of empty lots with benches. The Far Rockaway Domestics had a grandstand at their field. The Atlantic Athletic Association of Arverne played indoor baseball, but how they did it was never found in an article published by The Wave in those days.

In the summer of 1934, The Wave advertised a ballgame at the Arverne field of the Atlantics, between visiting teams called The House of David and The Black Yankees.

During the Depression days of the 1930s, Wave editions were smaller than usual due to the high cost of newsprint and lack of advertising, causing space to be at a premium.

I searched but never found out who won the game that was well-attended…. that's all folks!
