Heart Attack Causes Crash Elderly Man Dies At Wheel

An 86-year-old Rockaway resident was declared dead on arrival at St. John's Episcopal Hospital on Saturday, March 10, after he reportedly suffered a heart attack while he was behind the wheel of his 1990 Ford automobile. A police source says that Max Weinfeld, who was born in June of 1920, was found slumped behind the wheel of his car after it crashed into a concrete pole in the Wavecrest Gardens Shopping Center on Beach 20 Street. Weinfeld was rushed to St. John's Hospital, where he was declared dead at about 4 p.m. While the police department's Accident Investigation Squad and detectives from the 101 Precinct Squad are investigating, sources says that the crash appears to be a fatal accident.
