Torres Heads To Next Round Of The Golden Gloves Luis Torres was already prepared to step into the ring March 1st in Lindenhurst. With his Daily News Golden Gloves boxing attire on, he paced back and forth awaiting his scheduled fight in the latest round of the 178 pound novice class. Originally scheduled as the ninth fight on Friday night at Lindenhurst High School, Torres got the word before he went into the ring that it wasn't meant to be. His amateur opponent did not show so that Friday night became a sweat less one for Torres as he moved on to the next round with ease. Instead of being unhappy, Torres believes the night off was needed to recover from his previous bout which was a second round TKO of Michael Claudio on February 20. "It's good for me because I was still sore from the last fight," Torres, who represents the former Irish Ropes Boxing Gym, told the Wave. "The next day I woke up, my biceps were on fire." Torres extended a lot of energy in that fight but he says it was no problem for him to compete in Lindenhurst. For the meantime, he'll continue to train, workout and work at Boardwalk Bagels. He'll be waiting for the call to fight in the quarterfinals which will take place starting tonight at Yonkers PAL.
