SFDS Pee Wee B's, Novices Advance To CYO Quarters The Boys Diocesan playoffs continued this weekend and the Pee Wee B's and Novices have now advanced to the quarterfinals. The Pee Wees took on Gate of Heaven, and an offensive explosion led to a 40-18 victory. Jordan Asbury was dominant inside. Anthony Scotto was on fire from the perimeter including a 3 pointer at the halftime buzzer that took the wind out of the sails of Gate of Heaven. Michael Tammarro, John Whelan, Bard Featherston, Thomas Baldrian, and Joseph Brown also contributed offensively. All reaped rewards of the excellent pressure defense of Luke Gersh and Ryan Hoffman which caused numerous turnovers. Sunday's game will be 2 p.m. at Corpus Christi against St. Pancras. The Novices won a defensive struggle against St. Thomas More 25-20. St. Francis took leads of 7 at the half and 11 after three, before holding off a late charge from St. Thomas. Everyone on the team contributed to the win and they are ready to face OLPH at 12:45 on Sunday at St. Andrew's. The Bantams' defense of their Diocesan championship came to an end as they ran into a buzzsaw from St. Clare. St. Clare came out on fire taking a 19-4 lead and did not cool down much afterwards. St. Francis fought back gamely and eventually cut the lead to 5 but St. Clare iced the game at the free throw line where they made 21 of 25. The Intermediates likewise faced a strong team from St. Gabriel and managed to keep the game close, but a poor stretch during the 3rd quarter sealed their fate.
