Jane Cozier, a Rockaway resident for 20 years coming from Lynbrook, died February 28. Cozier, a homemaker, was born in Manhattan. She was a parishioner of St. Camillus Church. Cozier was preceded in death by her husband, Allan D. Cozier. She is survived by her sons, James, Robert and Kevin; daughter, Susan Harnett; sister, Margie Jackson; and 10 grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home, with visitation to be held on Friday, March 2, 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 3 at 9:45 a.m. at St. Camillus Church in Rockaway Park. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn.
Rev. Matthew M. Grant Roman Catholic Priest, Brooklyn Diocese Rev. Matthew M. Grant, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died February 27. Grant, a Roman Catholic Priest for the Diocese of Brooklyn, was born in Brooklyn. He was the retired pastor of St. Patrick's Parish in Long Island City, and his ministry also included the parishes of St. Michael's in Brooklyn and Christ the King in Springfield Gardens. Grant was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur and Stanley. He is survived by his nieces, Patricia Reilly, Kathleen Kowsky and Mary Ellen Grant; and nephew, Kevin Grant. Funeral arrangements and visitation were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Thomas More Church in Rockaway Point. Interment was at St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village.
Donald Stanton Retired Meat Sales Donald Stanton, a Rockaway resident for more than 50 years, died February 3. Stanton served his country in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a past post and county commander of the Jewish War Veterans and an active member of Temple Beth-El. At the time of his death, Stanton was retired from his work in meat sales. Stanton is survived by his wife, Lorraine; daughters, Sheryl Diamond and Robyn Stanton (Eric Savitz); sons, Andrew and Wayne; grandchildren, Hayley, Shawn, Jared, Jordan, Zachary, Joshua and Zoe. Funeral services were conducted by Rabbi Alan Blaine at the Parkside Funeral Chapel.
Gerard 'Chuck' Willsen St. Virgilius Basketball, Softball Coach Gerard 'Chuck' Willsen, a lifelong Broad Channel resident, died February 12 after a long illness. Willsen was employed in the fire safety industry and worked for the New York City Fire Department, Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Willsen was also a coach for over 20 years for the St. Virgilius Boys Basketball teams and the St. Virgilius Girls Softball teams. According to family members, Willsen's love and concern for the children of the community were his greatest legacy, and he will live on in those whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his father, Julius P. Willsen. Willsen is survived by his children, Peter, Carolina and Juliana; mother, Marie Willsen Smith; and siblings, Peter, Marie, James, Mary Kay, John, Michelle, Joseph and William. Donations may be made in Willsen's name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, 120 Wall Street 19th Floor, New York, NY 10005.
