Sergeant Kevin Komorsky and Sergeant Stanley Xenakis staked out Beach 72 Street and Elizabeth Avenue - the scene of two recent livery cab robberies - for three days last week, according to Captain Charles Neacy, the commander of the 100 Precinct. Last Saturday night, the third night of the stakeout, Komorsky and Xenakis spotted two men lurking in a shadowy area on Elizabeth Avenue. Fifteen minutes later, a livery cab rolled down the street. Twin brothers Isaac and Isaiah Shannon, 18, approached the cab. Police say Isaiah waved the driver over and opened the door. Then Isaac pulled a loaded .38 revolver.
"My anti-crime guys did an outstanding job," Neacy told the 30-member audience at the precinct's community council meeting Wednesday night. "It was a real nice arrest, they'll be honored as "Cop of the Month" next month," he added after detailing the stakeout and subsequent arrests. Neacy said the brothers were also linked to a recent home invasion, but court records show they have not been charged in that incident. The Shannon twins admitted their involvement in two other gunpoint cab robberies that recently took place in Rockaway. In those incidents they pulled a gun, stripped the drivers of their cash and then took the keys, so that the cabbie couldn't chase them. They also told police that they would rendezvous with another individual parked in a getaway car a block away. Police are still searching for that person, who was not identified. The twins, who live at 214 Beach 96 Street, are both charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, an armed felony offense, one count of second-degree robbery and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, according to court records. Queens Criminal Court Judge Suzanne Melendez ordered them held without bail and set a return date of March 15, according to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown's office. Attorney contact information for the Shannons was not immediately available.
