Women's Economic Growth Seminar 3/10

With the message "opportunities for growth in women-owned businesses now exist like never before," State Senator Shirley L. Huntley recently announced she is holding a Women's Economic Growth Seminar to discuss opportunities for women in the business world.

Seminar topics will include doing business with city and state government, business start-ups, loans, investments, consultants, expansion and retirement.

Panelists for the event include Deborah Allen of Allstate and Shauwana Dill-Darby, owner of the Jamaica Curves and the Rib Shack Restaurant, as well as representatives from the York College Small Business Development Center, the Queens Overall Economic Development Corporation, the Women's Venture Fund and Asian Women in Business.

"While it is important that we use Women's History Month [celebrated in March] as an occasion to look back on the past, we should also look ahead and do everything we can to ensure women play a greater role in our economy," Senator Huntley said.

The seminar's goal is to introduce women entrepreneurs to organizations that offer growth and capacity-building solutions.

The seminar will be held on Saturday, March 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Women of Faith, 109-29 Sutphin Boulevard in Jamaica. For more information on the seminar, contact Rahseida T. Smith at 718-322-2537.
