Remembering Leon Locke Six Years After His Death

Today, February 23, marks the sixth anniversary of the death of Wave publisher Leon Locke. Though both Rockaway and this paper have changed in innumerable ways since his death, his wife, Susan, continues his dedication to the truth and to community journalism, factors which live on in each issue of The Wave. On this anniversary, as on every other, we remember Leon with the image that remains in the memories of many locals: Leon sitting on his stool in the window of The Wave building, watching local life passing by, deciding how to report the facts and foibles of Rockaway. Leon is still missed by us at The Wave even after six years, but he remains our guiding spirit and that will never die.
