Kids Build Fort With Flags On Washington's Birthday

A group of kids visiting their grandparents in Roxbury this week found that the snow-and-ice mixture that recently coated our streets and sidewalks - and then froze solid as a rock - made a great building material, perfect for constructing a fort on Washington's Birthday a.k.a. Presidents Day. The fort, which they adorned with American Flags, reached a height of about 3 feet and had gaps for soldiers' gun barrels or for them to peek through, but lucky for everyone the kids played nicely on Monday and there were no enemies in sight. So, there was no battling on the Federal holiday. From left to right: Steven, Craig, Patti, grandma Carol Weinsheimer and Michael. Photo by Brian Magoolaghan
