As 2007 draws to an end, RAA looks forward to a new year of exhibitions in and around sTudio 6 and sTudio 7 galleries. Let us briefly look at the shows scheduled for 2008.
Each exhibit is juried and is open to all mediums. (Does that include Medium Rayah? She paints a rosy future.) For further information, please contact RAA (see above).
Get Out of Town. Locales and travel beyond Rockaway will be explored. Exhibition dates: January 19-February 17, 2008. Reception: January 20.
Structure explores the artwork of architecture, buildings and bridges, and anything man-made. The full range of mediums acceptable includes design sketches and tactile art. Dates: March 8-March 30. Deadline for receipt of entries: February 7. For full prospectus and entry form, visit the RAA website (see above).
Of Women. Open to all women artists who are RAA members or who have previously exhibited with RAA. The exhibit (which runs over Mother's Day) seeks to bring the viewer into the unique world of women in all their aspects, intonations and hues. Subjects should include images of women, and may highlight mother and child. Dates: April 19-May 20. Deadline for receipt of entries: March 26. For full prospectus and entry form, visit the RAA website.
Black and White, in which the artist is challenged to explore the world in black and white and shades of gray, by pursuing any theme in any way. Bringing new life and unexpected results to the form are encouraged. Be free and soar between the presence of all color and the absence of any color.
The Human Figure explores one of the world's most enduring subjects: the human figure. As with all these exhibitions, mediums used may include, but are not limited to, drawing, watercolor, photography, sculpture, stained glass, assemblage, kinetic art, mixed media, video, film and the written word. Theme and genre are unlimited. Each work must contain a human figure, which may be clothed or unclothed.
Black and White and The Human Figure are running concurrently in sTudio 7 Gallery. Artists may separately submit up to six works for each exhibit, at the regular submission rates per show, or they may submit any combination of up to six works for both shows for the single show rate. All works must be clearly marked to indicate for which exhibition they are intended.
Of Women, Black and White, and The Human Figure run April 19-May 18. The deadline for receipt of entries for the three exhibits is March 26.
Good & Plenty: The best works by RAA artists revisited. Good & Plenty is open to all artists who have previously exhibited with the Rockaway Artists Alliance and any works that have appeared in previous shows. Theme and direction are unlimited. Presently an art auction is planned as part of the exhibition.
Please indicate which pieces you would care to auction. (I wonder if they will be auctioning off black and white and pink candy?) Exhibition dates: June 7-June 22. Deadline for receipt of entries: May 15.
ARTSPLASH 2008: Would it be autumn without this annual multimedia arts event? Each year, ARTSPLASH is a vibrant juried exhibition of original works, and a major showcase for the full spectrum of visual, literary and performing arts, which will be exhibited in the sTudio 6 and sTudio 7 galleries, the outdoor sculpture garden and on the indoor and outdoor stages at Fort Tilden. Dates: September 13- October 12. Deadline for receipt of entries: August 6.
A Funny Thing. The art of humor. Just in case you needed a reminder, open to all mediums including photography, drawing, film and video, poetry, literary work, sculpture, collage and painting, etc. and any work that strikes the funny bone or touches on the subject of mirth, both light and dark. Form may include, but is not limited to, optical illusion, satire, visual or written humor, cartooning, incongruous images and more. (No kidding.) Dates: October 18-November 2.
Deadline for receipt of entries:
Gifted 2008. The annual membersonly group show has become a holiday tradition, showcasing the best from our artists. Dates: November 15-December 14, 2008. Deadline for receipt of entries: October 15, 2008.
