Lions'Last Minute Comeback Defeats Far Rockaway
In overtime last Wednesday, the host Seahorses were just 1:54 away in overtime from grabbing their first boys' basketball win of the year.
But Richmond Hill wouldn't go away to the eventual disappointment of the host Seahorses. Down 65- 60, the Lions stormed back and pulled out a 71-67 victory.
Turnovers and indecision plagued the young Seahorses again this season. Losing a four-point lead in regulation with a minute remaining, the Seahorses failed to hold on to the ball in the late stages of overtime.
Richmond Hill's Javon Figueroa connected on a lay-up to cut the lead to 67-66. Robert Rowe, who scored a team-high 24 points, missed on a long jumper on the other end.
Figueroa received the pass on the fast-break, and was subsequently fouled by Dashawn Williamson with 17 seconds left.
Though they showed much improvement in their effort against Richmond Hill, according to head coach Mark Bacchus, the results unfortunately stayed the same.
The Seahorses fell to 0-5 this season in the PSAL Queens AWest Division. Richmond Hill improved to 1-3.
"They settled for jumpshots and bad passes. That's our first time having a lead so late in the game. They have to learn when they have the lead the times to be aggressive and the times to be passive," Bacchus said.
The Seahorses, made up predominately of underclassmen, are going through their growing pains ,Bacchus said it was the best effort he's seen from his young team this season, but there is still more work to be done.
"It's a learning process. The kids got to keep believing that we will get better. Next time, when we're in this predicament, we will know what to do."
