Far Rockaway Rapper Honored For Positive Hip-Hop
His dedication to the community of Far Rockaway is not going unnoticed, because "True" will soon be presented with an award that commends his dedication and commitment to Far Rockaway's youth.
This coming Saturday night, "True" will be honored with the Far Rockaway NAACP's "Youth Leadership Award" at the fourth annual Freedom Fund Awards Dinner- Dance. "True" is excited about being honored and hopes that his messages can one day be followed and cherished by the entire youth population.
"I am truly excited that I am being honored," said "True". "It means a lot for what I am trying to do."
"True" is trying to get the kids off the street, off drugs, and get guns out of their hands. He wants kids to stay in school and develop a future for themselves outside of gangs and street violence. Despite having a full-time job as an ironworker and training to become a New York City firefighter, "True" still manages to find time to get his message out to the kids in an effort to convince them that there are positive things in life that can be accomplished.
"This is not just for me, this is for all of us," he told The Wave. "This is something that we all want to do."
The NAACP dinner-dance will be held at First Congregational Church Chapel Hall, 320 Beach 94 Street, on Saturday at 5:00 p.m., with special guest, Dominic Carter, host of NY1's "Inside City Hall."
