PS/MS 47 Deserved That A

Dear Editor,

As a former student from PS/MS 47 in Broad Channel, I was very offended by Howard Schwach's rude commentary. You didn't have the right to take the glory right from under PS/MS 47's feet. They worked hard to achieve that A. Just because PS 114 and the Scholars Academy didn't receive an Alike PS 47, it doesn't give you the right to judge it. Have you ever been in PS 47? Do you know what the teachers are like? I didn't think so; maybe next time you'll get the facts before you voice your opinion. Obviously, according to the DOE, PS 114 is not the "best" elementary school around anymore. I know PS 106 didn't appreciate the rude comment you left about them either. It was totally uncalled for. Did I say anything when PS 47 didn't score as high as PS 114? I'll answer that one for you, no I didn't. PS 47's students are VERY dedicated to their work. I am proud to say that I went to PS 47 from kindergarten to eighth grade and was part of the graduating class of 2007.

Scholars needs to stop saying they only accept students with 90 averages, because I know that's not true. I know people that had around 80 averages and yet still got accepted. I am so glad to say I stayed at PS 47 instead of going to Scholars!

I really don't understand this, you should be proud of the schools in your area no matter what they scored, not bring them down.

I would personally like to thank the PS 47 staff and teachers that helped me through the years of school; especially Mrs. Kelly, Mr. Burns, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Boyland and Mrs. Weiss. I'd like to also thank the guidance counselor, Mrs. Edwards and the wonderful parent coordinator, Mrs. Hanning; the principal and assistant principal, Mrs. Tubridy and Mrs. Donahue, for keeping the school in order. PS 47 - congratulations on the A, a job well done.

You want to know who I am? Here's a background on me. I went to PS 47 from kindergarten to eighth grade. I graduated with a 93 average and was on the National Junior Honor Society at PS 47 and now I attend Archbishop Molloy High School. Not to mention, I am on the honor roll there with a 91.5 overall average. So tell me why doesn't PS 47 deserve the A they got? Where did they go wrong?

PATRICIA KELLY
