Caution! The Subway El Is Falling

That's the message the MTA posted last weekend at the intersection of Beach Channel Drive and Beach 84 Street. Beach Channel Drive was closed underneath the elevated subway line due to what the sign termed, "Falling Debris." The Wave spotted MTA employees working on the tracks last Saturday afternoon. The MTA refused to comment on what exactly was falling from the elevated A line tracks. The Rockaway Freeway elevated subway line has been the focus of much debate lately because of its visibly crumbling and eroding structure that has elected officials and community activists lobbying for a major overhaul and restoration.
