Far Rockaway High Swim Team Achieve Personal Best

The 2007 season for the Far Rockaway High School girls' swimming team recently ended with a flourish.

In the PSAL city-wide swimming championships in early November, many of the girls who participated improved on their times and achieved their personal best: Yesenia Cruz, Verenicy Diaz, Angela Hutchinson, Afua John, Katherine Rocha, Eduvina Cruz and Alexus Pacheco.

This was a rebuilding year for the Seahorses swim team as eight out of 12 girls jointed for the first time. Some had little or no-experience in competitive swimming.

But with the experience gained throughout the just completed PSAL girls swim season, Illeana Abrev, Vanessa Abreau, Lasheyi Carrington, Travaisa Hazel and Ireme Mejia should make the future look bright for the Seahorses.

David Green, who is in his 34th year of coaching, said that "this group of girls is always at practice and eager to learn."

Green also said this was one of his most refreshing experiences in a number of years.

He is looking forward to working with the swimmers in the near future.
