Arverne Resident Pens New Motivational Book
Andrea Michelle Green calls it "living your privilege" - stepping into a purposeful life that you feel worthy of enjoying. After spending much of her career helping others as a clinical social worker, school guidance counselor, and high school administrator here in Rockaway, Green has now written a book to tell her own inspiring personal story of living through adversity, beating the odds, and enjoying the fullness of life. She also shares practical advice on how readers can, likewise, triumph over circumstances.
To celebrate this milestone, Green will speak to readers and sign copies of her book, "Live Your Privilege… Step Into Your Silhouette," at a reception on Friday, December 7, 2007, from 6-9 p.m., at the Harlem Tea Room, 1793A Madison Avenue (at 118 Street) in Manhattan.
A life-long resident of Arverne, Green attended PS 42 and JHS 198, then graduated from Beach Channel High School in 1988. Today, she works as the Assistant Principal of Administration/Pupil Personnel at her alma mater. Along the way, she attained a B.A. in Sociology and African/African-American Studies, a Masters in social work, and certificate of advanced study in educational administration. She helped launch the Channel View School for Research guidance program from 2004-2005, and serves on the roster of adjunct faculty at Alfred University Institute for Teacher Education. She is the mother of a teen-aged daughter, Kayla. Green's parents also reside in Arverne.
In "Live Your Privilege," Green shares her own dramatic and meaningful life experiences, from her abrupt coming of age, negative relationships, life struggles, poverty, single parenting, and eventually, personal triumph. She provides readers with practical, reflective activities that will help them unlock and embrace a more fulfilling life. As Green states in the introduction to her book: "If you are ready to change your patterns and you want the best versus 'good enough,' take this book home and dig in."
