SFDS Subnovice Girls Win Tough CYO Road Game

It wasn't over the river and through the woods, but the St. Francis De Sales CYO Subnovice Girls team made the long trek to St. Adalbert.

And the trip was well worth it. The defense of Meghan Gigliello and Lauren 'Speedy" Marten was outstanding while the passing of Courtney McCool and Megan Twomey set up their teammates as St. Francis flourished.

The birthday girls, Serena Yanello and Kayla Kilgallen began the scoring for the Novices as they beat Sacred Heart 19-5.

Kerri Rose Brennan set up Emma Michaels for multiple outside shots. Jenna Tipaldo and Emma Knox also contributed to the scoring. Taylor Vegh provided hard nosed defense and Mary Ellen Woods orchestrated several fast break baskets.

The Boys Subnovice teams faced each other. For the Gold, James McManus and Benjamin Edwards were strong on the boards, Billy McDonnell was outstanding with his passing and Jonathan Machado made a steal and went coast to coast for the layup. It was a solid team effort for the Blue squad as well.

The Pee Wee Gold traveled to St. Rose and left with a 28-14 win as Alex Goldberg scored 10 points, John Boyle added 8, Mark Butigan chipped in with 6 and Eoin Reen scored 4 points.

The Bantams also faced St. Rose and overcame a three point halftime deficit to prevail 30-26. Michael Buckley scored 10 and Niall Reen 7. Nick Tsatsis hit the key shot that sealed the win.

After all the turkey on Thanksgiving Day, come back for the best hot dog in town and catch the action at the SFDS gym this weekend.
