Shame On You

Dear Editor,

As a teacher at PS/MS 47 in Broad Channel for 10 years and a parent of a student who attends PS/MS 114, I feel I am qualified to say, "Shame on you, Howard Schwach!!!!", for your opening line on 11/16/07, "Raise your hand if you would rather see your child attend PS/MS 47 than either PS/MS 114 or Scholars."

You go on to say "I don't see many hands... just as I thought." You have insulted every hard-working student and loving parent in PS/MS 47.You have insulted every hard-working staff member at PS/MS 47,as well. Do we deserve the A, while PS 114 gets a B? NO - the system used was flawed. You said so yourself.

From my experience as a parent dealing with PS/MS 114, my son has received an A+ education. I know first hand how hard teachers at PS114 work. I sit at the homework table each night and see what is taught each day. Teachers call me at night to discuss my son's progress. My son is allowed to call his teacher at night, at her home, to get help on a math question.

PS/MS 47 and PS/MS 114 are both great schools with great teachers. They successfully serve the needs of their community. There was no need to put us down at PS/MS 47 for getting an A, to make your point about PS/MS 114 not getting the A, that they surely deserved.

PARENT, PS 114
