'Roc The Youth Tour,' an initiative to help the young people of the area express themselves, made its first stop at the Arverne Library earlier this week.

The November 19 event, spearheaded by the NAACP and RDRC Youth Councils, is a way to give the young people of Rockaway positive influences in what they do with their time.

"The goals are two-fold," said Donovan Richards, the co-chair of the NAACPYouth Council. "It's to give you [the youth] a chance to express yourselves and to show the talent here in Rockaway.

"We want everyone to stop the violence. This is just the beginning. We have a long way to go."

The 'Roc The Youth Tour' will be making stops at community centers, libraries and churches across the Peninsula before it ends with a big show at the Goldie Maple Academy on Beach 56 Street.

Production assistance was provided by E.A.J. Entertainment.
