PHC To Host Blood Drive November 26
Peninsula Hospital Center will sponsor another critically needed blood drive on Monday, November 26, 2007. The blood drive is being held in conjunction with New York Blood Center. The drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Meditation Room at the Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation, which is located directly adjacent to the hospital center at 50-15 Beach Channel Drive, Far Rockaway.
Donating blood is literally, giving the gift of life. Nearly 2,000 men, women and children across all ethnic groups in our region need donated blood products each day, and NYBC needs close to 2,000 people a day to roll up their sleeves to give the gift of life.
There is simply no substitute for voluntarily donated blood. Without volunteer donors, our community would not have an adequate community blood supply.
We need to help now! According to NYBC, only two percent of the locally eligible population donated blood each year. Help us raise that average and give record amounts of blood at The Peninsula Hospital Center Blood Drive on Monday, November 26. Those who donate blood during the drive will be issued a voucher for lunch in the cafeteria and will also be eligible for some wonderful donated raffle prizes.
For additional information, call 718- 734-2507.
Eligible donors should be in good health, with a minimum weight of 110 pounds, and be between the ages of 17 to 75, although older persons may donate blood with their doctor's written permission.
In the past, some who have wanted to donate have been turned away because of certain medications they were taking, or due to other special circumstances.
However, some of the rules have been updated, and those wishing to donate who might have questions regarding their eligibility are asked to call 1-800-933-2566.
